OLPC APAC – Our Work Around AsiaChinaAs you may already know, since our inception in November 2008, we have concentrated our efforts on raising funds for delivering XO laptops to the children in Sichuan whose homes and schools were completely destroyed in the quake and who were desperate to regain normalcy in their lives. After much hard work, we successfully deployed 1000 XO laptops in June of 2009 for the students of Pu Yang Primary School in Dujiangxin Sichuan. Learn more about our work in China here. BhutanEarly October 2009, OLPC APAC went on an expedition armed with 250 XOs to the remote mountainous empire of Bhutan. At the rural Kuzhugchen Community Primary School, the OLPC APAC team of volunteers was able to set up a school server with Wi-Fi Internet connection in addition to training both teachers and students. Learn more about our work in Bhutan here. Other exciting achievements include the deployment of 200 XOs to Malaysia and 150 XOs to two Hong Kong Youth Federation centers in Hong Kong. Please help us spread the awareness of our cause by forwarding this information to your friends and contacts. Help Us Change the WorldWe want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the donors who have given us their support and all the volunteers who have tirelessly donated their time and effort into making all this possible. However, we have only reach a minuscule percentage of the children needing our help. This year, we have set ourselves a goal of donating 2500 XOs to under privileged children around Asia. With the cost of around US$200 per XO (which can be used for at least 5 years), for each child, the cost per day for unlimited access to knowledge and learning is less than US$0.10. Each XO placed in a child’s hand gives him or her an opportunity to connect to the world, opening doors and windows that will change his or her future for the better. At this small cost for such a high return, we really feel that we have no excuse not to do our best to achieve our goal. Please help us realize our goal of delivering XO laptops to all the needy children in Asia. Please donate generously. For more information, please visit us at www.olpc.aisa.
OLPC APAC would like to invite you to an enlightening experience at the “Dialogue in the Dark” Exhibition. The “Dialogue in the Dark” Exhibition provides a perspective-changing experience for participants. Blind guides lead visitors through a completely dark environment where the sighted learns to interact in various situations by relying on their other senses. Participants share an unforgettable experience; often reporting enhanced perception and communication, a great sense of empathy and solidarity, gratitude for their senses, and respect for those who see the world differently. We see handing an underprivileged child an XO as turning on a light in a mind shadowed by limited possibilities, thus we wish to share with you an experience of enlightenment and opening of possibilities with this “Dialogue in the Dark” Exhibition.
